Ty Robinson Drives to Keep Causing Havoc, With Some Accompanying Handshakes Perhaps

Robinson was instrumental in bringing the 18U East Cobb Astros to the title game of the WWBA World Championship.

Ty Robinson stood at home plate holding what appeared to be a baseball bat made for a child. The barrel was so small it seemed like a minor inconvenience for a young man with full-grown man biceps.

It certainly did not look like a tool that would be used to inflict pain on an opposing pitcher. But don't be fooled. That bat helped Ty Robinson become a nightmare this summer for pitchers at the 18U WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Florida.

The 18U Astros finished 5-2 in pool play going 1-1 against the eventual champion, the 18U Canes.

Robinson, a 2023 shortstop and Vanderbilt commit, led the charge with a .471 batting average, eight hits, and nine RBIs. He also stole four bases and scored six runs.

Robinson's performance was even more impressive considering he was playing up an age group. He is one of the top prospects in the 2023 class and is expected to be a high draft pick next year.

“He is a really good hitter,” East Cobb Astros coach David Ross said. “He is a tough out and he can hit for power and average.”

Robinson's bat was not the only thing that made him a valuable asset to the Astros. He also played solid defense at shortstop.

“He’s got a really good arm and he can field the ball,” Ross said. “He's a good all-around player.”

Robinson's performance at the WWBA World Championship was a continuation of a strong summer for him. He also played well for the East Cobb Astros in the Perfect Game 18U WWBA National Championship in Emerson, Georgia.

In that tournament, Robinson hit .333 with six hits, six RBIs, and four stolen bases.

Robinson is one of several talented players on the East Cobb Astros.

The team also features several other players who are committed to top college programs, including outfielder Will Taylor (Vanderbilt), catcher Landon Jordan (Georgia), and pitcher Jake Wilson (Georgia).

The Astros are coached by David Ross, who played 15 seasons in the major leagues.

Ross said he is excited about the potential of this team.

“We have a lot of talent on this team,” Ross said. “We have a good mix of pitching and hitting and we play good defense.”

The Astros will look to continue their success in the playoffs. They will open the playoffs on Friday against the Canes.
